No one doubts that Donald Trump is the clear front-runner in this Republican primary cycle.
But he needs to come up with a better answer to this question if he wants to make it past Super Tuesday.
And Trump’s strange support for this bureaucrat may derail his entire campaign.
Trump’s primary to lose
It’s hard to remember a time when one Presidential candidate had such a commanding lead in a primary cycle who wasn’t in office.
Poll after poll shows that Donald Trump is without question the front runner in the Republican Presidential primary.
Nationally, he is leading in every poll that comes out.
And it’s not even close, with him beating Ron DeSantis by 20 or 30 points, if not more.

And in the battleground early state level of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, he still holds a commanding lead of at least 10 plus points in these first of the primary cycle states over any other candidate.
Now it’s without question that the polls will tighten as we get closer to the Iowa caucus as more people jump ship from the smaller candidates to someone like Ron DeSantis or Vivek.
But all President Trump has to do is stay course, and he should win this primary with no problem.
But for some reason, Donald Trump is saying one thing that is upsetting his base across America.
And it’s mistakes like this that could bust the Republican primary wide open.
Trump fumbles Fauci
Donald Trump had his toughest interview so far this election cycle last week on the SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
And Megyn asked one simple question Republican voters are asking themselves, “Why did you defend Fauci?”
She started by asking the former President, “For years, you’ve been saying that the reason you didn’t fire Anthony Fauci was because he’d been there for a long time, that you would’ve taken heat, that it would’ve created a firestorm, quoting your words.”
Trump interrupted and claimed, “Well, I also said I didn’t listen to him too much.”
Megyn Kelly then responded with:
“I’m getting there, but then in May, you started saying, well, he’s a civil servant, so I couldn’t, technically. The truth is though, not only did you not fire Fauci…you made him a star, this is the criticism of you, that you made him the face of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, that he was out at every presser, that he was running herd for the administration on COVID, and that you actually gave him a presidential commendation before you left office. Wouldn’t you like a do-over on that?”
Then Trump responded with an answer that has everyone in shock.
He stated, “I don’t know who gave him the commendation. I really don’t know who gave him the commendation. I wouldn’t have done it.”
Absolutely brutal exchange. Trump claims he doesn’t know who gave Anthony Fauci a presidential commendation while he was president when pressed by Megyn Kelly.

Fauci has been one of the worst bureaucrats our nation has ever seen and was put in a position over this nation by former President Trump.
Trump is going to need a better answer than to ignore that Fauci was even in his administration, let alone to state that he doesn’t remember personally giving him a reward for destroying Americans’ dreams.
