Tucker Carlson is branching off on his own after his stunning ouster at Fox News.
His former employer wants to keep him muzzled after they kicked him to the curb.
And the battle between Tucker Carlson and Fox News escalated after this shocking threat.
Tucker is back – and Fox News is furious
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson made his return to the media with the launch of his new Twitter based show.
The first episode of Tucker on Twitter was a resounding success that racked up over 109 million views on the platform, blowing away the number of viewers his old Fox News show garnered.
But Fox News is lashing out at Carlson after his new show turned out to be a smashing success.
Fox News notified Carlson’s legal team that by launching his new Twitter-based show, he’s supposedly in breach of his contract the network is still holding over his head despite firing him.
His contract with Fox reportedly runs through early 2025, but Carlson’s legal team is still working on an exit.
Fox News general counsel Bernard Gugar sent a letter to the host’s legal team saying that he “is in breach” of his contract after the first episode of his Twitter show.
“This evening we were made aware of Mr. Tucker Carlson’s appearance on Twitter in a video that lasted over 10 minutes,” the letter stated. “Pursuant to the terms of the Agreement, Mr. Carlson’s ‘services shall be completely exclusive to Fox.'”
The letter added that Carlson’s contract prevents him from putting on a show over the internet or on streaming.
Accusing Carlson of breaching his contract with the network sets up Fox News to potentially pursue legal action against their former top star.
Tucker’s team dismisses the allegations
One of Carlson’s attorneys, Bryan Freedman, told Axios that Fox News would violate his client’s First Amendment rights with any potential legal action.
“Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds,” Freedman explained. “Now they want to take Tucker Carlson’s right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events.”
Carlson’s legal team discounted the threat because they don’t believe that Twitter is the type of direct competition with Fox News’ other outlets, like CNN and MSNBC, are.
Fox News wants to keep Carlson on the sidelines through the length of his contract so he’ll be muzzled during the 2024 Election.
Axios reported that a top Fox News executive apparently told Carlson that the network’s intent was to keep him off the air until his contract expires.
Fox News is trying to silence the former top-rated host in cable news by keeping him from building a new media venture.
Carlson’s new venture will undoubtedly draw viewers from Fox News as conservatives abandon the cable news network and its ratings slide.
The threat from Fox News didn’t stop Carlson from releasing the second episode of his new show, which has now racked up millions of views as well.
The feud between Fox News and Tucker Carlson could be headed to the next level after the legal threat.
