Donald Trump’s insanely bizarre response to Ron DeSantis’ Presidential campaign announcement left conservatives across America completely bewildered

Jun 2, 2023

Donald Trump has been viciously attacking Ron DeSantis since he emerged as the most popular Governor in America during COVID.

So it was no surprise that the official launch of the Governor’s Presidential campaign drove the former President up a wall.

But Donald Trump’s insanely bizarre response to Ron DeSantis’ Presidential campaign announcement left conservatives across America completely bewildered.

Can anyone translate?

According to a recent report from Reuters, up until that point, former President Donald Trump had unleashed more than 215 attacks against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis since he launched his third Presidential campaign back in November – and that was more than two weeks ago.

Strangely, though, the majority of Trump’s attacks against DeSantis have sounded an awful lot like attacks Democrats routinely hurl against the Governor and every other Republican.

For example, like Democrats, Trump has claimed – without evidence – that the Governor wants to “destroy” entitlement programs, like social security and Medicare, even though DeSantis has repeatedly stated his belief that those programs should be off the table.

Trump has even gone to the disgusting low of regurgitating verbatim a Democrat conspiracy theory that claims DeSantis was somehow involved in an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl based on a blurry image of what looks like a man standing beside two women, even though no one can make out who is actually in the picture, much less the individuals’ ages.

But despite the fact that everyone is now accustomed to Trump choosing to engage in such nonsense, nothing could prepare conservatives nationwide for the former President’s response to the Governor’s Presidential campaign announcement.

Taking to Truth Social after DeSantis’ announcement, Trump bizarrely referred to the Governor as “Rob” and proceeded to tell him that his “Red Button” is bigger and working, while DeSantis’ apparently is not – whatever that even means.

“‘Rob,’ My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working (TRUTH!), yours does not! (per my conversation with Kim Jung Un, of North Korea, soon to become my friend!),” Trump wrote.

“Bonkers”

Based on the reactions online, most conservatives were left in the dark by the remark.

“DeSantis has been talking about detailed and substantive policy issues for the last hour,” writer A.G. Hamilton pointed out. “This is what you get from Trump. If people want idiocracy and entertainment, Trump might be the better option. If you want substance on the right, DeSantis is it.”

“Bonkers,” Gold Institute for International Strategy senior fellow Matthew Brodsky tweeted in response to Trump’s post.

Meanwhile, Claremont Institute fellow David Reaboi claimed that “nobody thinks this is sane; they’re just afraid to admit it.”

But admittedly, Trump’s response could actually not be that strange at all – if anyone actually knew what it meant.

Nevertheless, as it stands, it’s difficult for even the most adamant Trump supporters to not raise an eyebrow at such outbursts.

And with over eight months still remaining until the first votes are cast, there’s no telling what Donald Trump may do or say next.
