In contrast to their Republican counterparts, Democrats have always circled the wagons to protect their own regardless of the extenuating circumstances.
It’s exceedingly rare to see any Democrat step out of line and challenge another left-wing radical, much less actively call for them to resign.
But now the jaw-dropping revelation a Washington Post reporter just made about one Democrat Senator has Adam Schiff up in arms.
Democrats are at each other’s throats
One of the more entertaining bits of drama unfolding in Washington, D.C., surrounds 89-year-old U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the oldest politician currently serving in Congress.
Democrats and their media allies have been quietly pressuring Feinstein to step aside to make way for a younger left-wing radical since Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg passed away in 2020.
But after she was recently hospitalized with the shingles virus – rendering Democrats’ slim Senate majority incapable of advancing many of President Joe Biden’s most radical left-wing judicial nominees – that quiet pressure turned into a massive public campaign by some of the top Democrats in Congress to force her hand.
Many Democrats even began calling for Senator Feinstein to resign immediately to allow Governor Gavin Newsom to appoint one of the left-wing radicals who’ve already lined up to replace her, like Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Katie Porter (D-CA), or Barbara Lee (D-CA).
Now, more fuel has been added to their fire, as a new book’s jaw-dropping revelation about Feinstein has raised even more questions about whether she’s capable of serving in the Senate.
In his new book, The Big Break: The Gamblers, Party Animals, and True Believers Trying to Win in Washington While America Loses Its Mind, Ben Tellis, a style writer for The Washington Post, described an incident he claimed to have been told occurred in 2021.
As The Washington Post reporter tells it, shortly after Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) was first elected to office, Senator Feinstein confused Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) with her fellow Democrat, as they are both black men.
“I had heard a story that fit the theme, from another Senate staffer,” Tellis wrote in an excerpt of his book published by Politico. “About a year earlier, Feinstein had approached Senator Tim Scott, stuck out her hand, and told him she had been rooting for him and was so happy to have him serving with her in the Senate. It was obvious to Scott and the staffers in tow that Feinstein had mistaken the South Carolinian for Raphael Warnock, the newly elected Democratic senator from Georgia.”
A true gentleman
To his credit as an absolute gentleman, Tellis added that Senator Scott recognized that Feinstein was confused and proceeded to politely play along so as to not embarrass the long-time Senator.
“Thank you so much,” Scott reportedly replied. “Your support means a lot.”
Of course, while Scott is a bit more of an establishment politician than some of his conservative counterparts, like Senators Rand Paul (R-KY) or Mike Lee (R-UT), it’s no surprise that he would handle that type of situation with such class – few Senators are as universally liked and respected as the South Carolina Senator.
It also highlights exactly why many believe he could be a formidable candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2024 – Senator Scott said on Sunday that it’s time for him to “make the next step,” as he teased a “major announcement” on May 22.
Regardless, the idea that Senator Feinstein didn’t recognize Scott, who she’s served in the Senate with for more than a decade now, obviously doesn’t do her any favors as she attempts to convince her fellow left-wing radicals that she’s capable of doing her job for another 20 months.
She returned to the Senate this week for the first time in two and a half months in the hopes she could put an end to the calls for her to resign.
But now, thanks to one Washington Post reporter, those calls are only going to grow even louder.
