Former President Donald Trump likes giving people names.
And some of his favorite targets are in the media.
That’s why Donald Trump was all smiles after “The Dumbest Man on Television” was finally fired.
While most of America talked about Fox News letting Tucker Carlson go, many were just as interested in CNN’s firing of radical leftist Don Lemon.
A long time coming
For most Americans, the question was not, “Why did they fire Don Lemon, but, “What took so long?”
And while countless Americans cheered the firing of the bombastic host, no one seemed happier than former President Donald Trump.
Trump weighed-in immediately upon hearing the news on the termination of Don Lemon at CNN, saying “the dumbest man on television has been fired.”
“Good News: ‘The dumbest man on television,’ Don Lemon, has finally been fired from Fake News CNN. My only question is, WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG?” Trump posted on Truth Social.
CNN announced on Monday, April 24, that they were ending their contract with Don Lemon after his 17 year run at the network.
The news came after Lemon had a short, yet controversial, tenure as a morning show co-host.
And it happened to come on the very same day Fox News announced it was parting ways with Tucker Carlson, a move that outraged conservatives.
Thank you for your service – Bye!
CNN stated, in a release, that Lemon would always be a part of the CNN family and thanked him for his contributions over the years.
And to throw gasoline on an already combustible situation, CNN announced that Lemon’s morning show, which he had co-hosted with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, would continue.
The show, called CNN This Morning, had been on the air for almost six months, and the network had repeatedly expressed their commitment to the show.
Clearly, that commitment did not include Don Lemon.
Lemon released his own statement on Twitter after the firing was announced.
And he was none too happy, making it clear that his departure from the once leading news network was not a mutual decision.
Lemon posted, “I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best.”
Hold up, Don
That statement didn’t sit well with the suits at CNN.
They replied saying none of that was true.
In fact, within an hour of Lemon’s Tweet, CNN’s public relations team released a counter statement.
And they accused Lemon of misrepresenting the way his termination was handled by the network.
“Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate,” CNN Communications tweeted. “He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”
It sounds like CNN squeezed Lemon out just in time, though he is still sour about the whole debacle.
