But Matt Gaetz’ reason for teaming up with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will leave you absolutely speechless.
An actual non-partisan issue
One of the worst kept secrets in Washington, D.C., is the fact that once a politician enters office, they magically become amongst the greatest, most successful investors in the world.
Both Democrat and Republican politicians have routinely seen their stock portfolios grow exponentially – even beating the markets in years most investors lost their shirts.
And they’ve done it all on the back of completely, coincidentally well-timed trades that just happened to allow politicians to buy or sell stocks right before major regulatory or legislative changes – which the public wasn’t aware of – occurred, sending the ruling class elites’ net worths skyrocketing.

But this past week, the unthinkable happened – a so-called “Republican extremist” and a self-described socialist teamed up to draw a line on behalf of working-class Americans.
In a stunning move, Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have teamed up to introduce the Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government act, which would forbid Members of Congress, as well as their spouses and dependents, from trading individual stocks.
Gaetz and Ocasio-Cortez have obviously been on opposite ends of the political spectrum since they entered Congress in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
In fact, just last year, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez even referred to the Republican Congressman as a “bad haircut in a cheap suit,” who was only in Congress because of his father’s money.
So it was only natural for many working class Americans to wonder how the duo came together on this issue.
She’s not . . . what?
During an interview with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Rep. Gaetz explained that he made the decision to put aside all of the attacks AOC levied his way, and all of their past disagreements on fundamental issues, because he will work with anyone to ensure Congress isn’t compromised.
But most stunning of all was the fact that he also claimed that while the socialist Congresswoman is “wrong a lot,” she’s also “not corrupt.”
“AOC is wrong a lot – she would probably say the same thing about me,” Gaetz told Watters. “But she is not corrupt, and I will work with anyone and everyone to ensure that Congress is not so compromised. We should disallow congressional stock trading for the same reason we don’t allow the referee to bet on the game.”
While Gaetz’ desire to work with “anyone and everyone” on such issues is certainly the approach working class Americans would hope their elected representatives would have, it’s difficult to not raise an eyebrow when he claims Ocasio-Cortez “is not corrupt.”
After all, AOC is currently under investigation by the House Ethics Committee after it was revealed that she received “impermissible gifts” to attend the 2021 Met Gala.
Reports have indicated that the Congresswoman was given two $35,000 tickets for her and her boyfriend to attend the event for free as guests of Vogue, and was also given her infamous “Tax the Rich” dress, a handbag, shoes, jewelry, hair, makeup, transportation, a bow tie and shoes for her boyfriend, and other services, all serious violations of House ethics rules.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez attempted to pay for the items once the investigation had already begun, claiming she always intended to pay for what she received, but it simply “fell off [her] radar.”
Nevertheless, if a choice has to be made between teaming up with the vain, egomaniac socialist who received tens of thousands of dollars of “impermissible gifts,” or allowing ruling class elites in both parties to continue making hundreds of millions of dollars off insider trading, there’s no doubt that Gaetz made the correct choice.
As he put it, “About one in every four members of Congress is doing this, and it’s not exactly like I’m elected with a bunch of Gordon Gekkos and Bobby Axelrods.”
